Welcome to Black Creek! Black Creek is a Village, population just under 1200 located in Northeast Wisconsin. We moved to Black Creek
a year ago and I have yet to see a creek here. Having lived within a 100 mile radius my entire life I have driven
through Black Creek many times prior to moving here. I have always called it Creek [kreek] but now that I live here I am surprised by all the people who call it
Crick [krik]. You know, I can totally hear my Grandpa Miller say Black Crick back in his day. Crick just reminds me of the
Little House on the Prairie episode
when Jonathan Garvey enlisted advice from
Kezia Horn for the crick in his back.
Of course, I just had to look it up on dictionary.com.
This is what I found
crick[krik]–noun--a sharp, painful spasm of the muscles, as of the neck or back;
creek[kreek, krik]–noun--a stream smaller than a river.
So technically Creek can be pronounced either ‘krik’ or 'kreek', it really makes no difference to me how people pronounce it. Will you ever
hear me say Black Crick? Probably not, it is Creek to me and mine.
Since we bought a house
here we plan to be residents for quite some time. This will hopefully be our baby boy's only home, well until he grows up and moves out
anyways. So I am interested to find out more about Black Creek and the history of our little village. Speaking of village, now that is another whole story.
After living in cities all my life it seems odd to refer to my town as a village, especially after paying our water and sewer bills to the City Clerk all these
years. You would think I would be used to paying the Village Clerk by now since our bills our monthly instead of quarterly. When I say village
I always think of Linda Thompson and her talking about her job at the
Village Inn. I am curious why
the Village was named Black Creek, just a little research for my free time if I ever find some.
Once we heard the offer on the house was accepted and saw that this
domain was available we just had to register it. I'm not exactly sure what this site will become. I would like to list links for the area.
Since it has been a year already I thought I should get a page up for now at least. Perhaps my writings have brought you
a little chuckle and you now have a new place to check the local weather. If you have any questions or comments on the site, have info on
Black Creek that you would like to share with me or would like to be included on a link list just
email me. Thanks. TTFN, ta-ta for now.
